Plan item 9.6 (docs/TAP-PYTHON-PLAN.md): the release session for 2.0.0. Once this is merged, the merge commit gets the tag v2.0.0 (on request; nothing is tagged yet).

On the Mac (Max 9.1.5)

  • Build: a fresh build passes the glue test.
  • Runtime suite: all 21 runtime tests pass. tap.python.load ran first in a fresh Max, so the object was found through init/. The hour-long soak passed in 9.5.
  • Patchers: the help files, the tutorials' patchers and the Overview were opened and saved in Max, so they're in Max's own format. Every patcher and subpatcher keeps the same boxes and patch cords, and scripts/check-docs.py passes.
  • Reference page: Max didn't rewrite tap.python~'s page; it already matches the external.
  • Hand checks:
    • An attrui on [tap.python euclid] lists the class's attributes, pulses and steps.
    • It reads steps as 8, and typing 5 sets it.
    • getsteps brings out steps 8, then steps 5, from the dumpout, and the bang's list follows (1 0 1 0 1).
    • A tap.python~ and a tap.python on one file, saved while audio runs, is what tap.python.shared checks.

On Windows 11 (Parallels VM, MSVC, Max 9.1.5)

  • Build and tests: the build passes the glue test (17 cases) and check-docs.py.
  • In Max, from its log:
    • both objects, and mc.tap.python~, load through init/;
    • an attribute set by message survives a reload: steps 5 from the dumpout after filechanged, and tap.python~'s gain 0.5 read back after its reload;
    • euclid outputs 1 0 1 0 1;
    • note_name outputs 4, then symbol C;
    • scale outputs 2. 4. 6.;
    • nonesuch gets Max's own "doesn't understand".
  • Help files: both open with their tabs, and Max's reference sidebar lists tap.python as related ("Run a Python class as a Max object").

Changed here

  • Patchers: saved by Max, as above.
  • Titles: made bold by fontface rather than by naming "Ableton Sans Bold Regular". Windows logs typeface name Lucida Sans with style Bold not found! when a help file opens. That turned out to be Max's own help window on that VM, since opening only cycle~'s help logs it too. The change is kept anyway, because it matches how the original help's title was set.
  • CHANGELOG: 2.0.0 dated 2026-10-10, with an intro saying what the release is, why it's a major version, and how it was verified.

Not done here

  • Performance tables: the ReadMe keeps Sep 30's tables. The Mac wasn't idle (macOS's media analysis near 100% of a core, load average about 4); a test run read 25–50% slower for unchanged code. On your decision, the measured tap.python message sentence (5.6 µs for the bridge, 16 µs for scale.py, matching 9.1's figures) joins the tables the next time the Mac is idle, after the tag.
  • Windows Documentation window: not checked; only the help files were opened there. The Mac check covered it in 9.4.

dictionary_read error in package-info.json at Max's startup is another package's file: it appears with ours moved aside.

… Max (9.6)

Opened and saved in Max 9.1.5, which writes them in its own form: the same boxes and patch cords
(checked, every patcher and subpatcher), scripts/check-docs.py passing.

On Windows Max did not resolve "Ableton Sans Bold Regular" by name and fell back to a Lucida Sans
Bold the system does not have ("typeface name Lucida Sans with style Bold not found!", found opening
the help files in the Windows VM). The titles are now the default font with fontface 1, as the
original help's title was.
