Kotlin/JVM reader implementation: worth listing under "Consuming PMTiles"? #134

Closed

Description

@MinotaurG

Hi! I wrote a small dependency-free Kotlin/JVM reader for PMTiles v3 and thought it might be useful to others in the JVM/Android ecosystem, which doesn't seem to have one listed yet.

Repo: https://github.com/MinotaurG/pmtiles-kotlin

  • Pure Kotlin, no third-party dependencies (works on any JVM, not just Android)
  • Reads tiles by z/x/y with random access; gzip decompression via the JVM stdlib
  • Verified against the official fixtures in this repo (test_fixture_1/2.pmtiles, protomaps(vector)ODbL_firenze.pmtiles) and the spec's golden Hilbert tile-id values (e.g. zxyToTileId(12, 3423, 1763) == 19078479), plus an exhaustive zxy -> tileId -> zxy round-trip up to zoom 8.

I noticed the README's ## Consuming PMTiles section lists JS / Go / Python / Serverless but nothing for Kotlin/JVM. Would you be open to a small PR adding a ### Kotlin / JVM entry there pointing to it? Happy to match the existing prose-and-link style. Totally fine if community
readers aren't something you list, just wanted to ask before sending a PR.

Thanks for PMTiles. It's a great format to build on.
