- SCP-9653 refers to genetically modified black rats that can eat house-building materials like drywall and concrete, and use the energy from this to subtly change houses. These rats, which are clones of a special rat named RR-1, can combine their minds to make their house-altering powers stronger. They were created as part of a secret project called "Project Homesick" by a group called the Fire Suppression Department (FSD) to discourage Foundation employees from living off-site by making their homes unlivable. If a group of these rats that have merged their minds gets disconnected or becomes unmanageable, they all explode. The SCP Foundation is trying to contain all instances, especially after a large-scale incident in Spring Valley Village, Texas, where many rats escaped and caused massive property damage and explosions.

- Paul Karason was an American man known for his blue skin, a condition called argyria, which developed after he self-medicated with homemade colloidal silver and silver preparations to treat various ailments in the early 1990s. Despite his claims that it cured some conditions, he acknowledged it caused his irreversible blue skin. Karason gained media attention in 2008 and continued using colloidal silver until his death in 2013 at age 62 from a heart attack, pneumonia, and a stroke.
