This is the official github organization of the RIT VEX U Robotics team. We are a student-led performance team at the Rochester Institute of Technology dedicated to designing, building, testing, and programming robots to compete in the VEX U Robotics Competition each year.
This github organization contains the software, libraries, development tools, and documentation developed through the course of the team's history.
RIT VEX U uses GitHub repository topics to provide a consistent, high-level classification of its projects. The following topics are assigned based on how closely a repository falls under its description.
Used for repositories containing software meant to be run on a competition robot. These repositories generally contain robot configuration, driver-control code, autonomous routines, subsystem implementations, and other robot-specific software.
Used for reusable libraries intended to support multiple robots or tools rather than a single competition robot. These repositories contain abstractions, algorithms, control systems, and infrastructure that are commonly utilized throughout the field of robotics.
Used for repository templates that provide a starting point for creating new robot repositories. Templates establish common project structure and development conventions for the team.
Used for repositories involving custom electronics developed to enhance the team's robots. This includes custom boards and other hardware-leaning projects. Any repository that falls under electronics will also fall under one of the following two topics:
-
schematics— Used to identify repositories containing electronic schematics and PCB-related design information, documenting the design of custom hardware used by the team. -
firmware— Used to identify repositories containing the low-level software that runs directly on our custom electronics.
Used for engineering notebook-related tooling and resources, supporting the documentation and organization of the team's robotics development process.
The team also uses competition-specific topics to associate year-specific repositories with the VEX game they were developed for. These topics include:
override— Override, the current competition seasonpush-back— Push Back, the 2025-2026 seasonhigh-stakes— High Stakes, the 2024-2025 seasonover-under— Over Under, the 2023-2024 seasonspin-up— Spin Up, the 2022-2023 seasontipping-point— Tipping Point, the 2021-2022 seasonchange-up— Change Up, the 2020-2021 seasontower-takeover— Tower Takeover, the 2019-2020 seasonturning-point— Turning Point, the 2018-2019 season
These topics provide historical context for archived repositories and make it possible to identify which competition a project belongs to without relying solely on repository names.
