What changes

This adds a News post announcing the French edition of Python Programming for Economics and Finance, which went live on 2026-07-17 at https://quantecon.github.io/lecture-python-programming.fr/. Under the README's definitions, a new language edition of a lecture series is News; its later updates belong in Activity, which already records them. No post has announced a translated edition before.

  • File: _posts/2026-07-17-python-programming-french-edition.md. It's dated to the launch, as the site dates posts written after the event (the SciPy, CMU and IMF workshop posts, for example). It will be the newest post, so it leads /news/ and the home page.
  • Front matter follows the other posts: author: QuantEcon, tag: [lectures] (as the 2023 series launches use), and a one-sentence excerpt that fits the home-page card.

An independent fact-check verified every statement against public records, and every link resolves.

Before merging

  • Emile is named and his work described, so he may want to see the post first. I haven't contacted him.
  • Author line: QuantEcon is the default for lecture posts. Change it to your name if you'd rather.
  • The invitation to open issues on the French edition's repository: confirm you want public reports there. Issues are open, but the repo has no contributing guide or issue templates.
  • The review count ("five lectures") is correct today. Recheck the tracker if the merge waits.

Check on the preview

  • /2026/07/17/python-programming-french-edition.html renders, including the French title and the no-break space in "POO I : Objets et méthodes".
  • The post is first on /news/ and in the home page's Latest News, with its excerpt in full.

🔵 Needs a closer look

The content names a real individual and makes external factual claims (review count, consent to be named, public issue reports) that the author explicitly flags for human confirmation and that cannot be verified automatically.

What changed in this PR

This PR adds a single News post announcing the French edition of Python Programming for Economics and Finance. It fits the site's content model where a new language edition of a lecture series is announced as News (with later updates tracked in Activity). The post is backdated to the launch date (2026-07-17), consistent with how other event posts are dated, and becomes the newest post so it leads /news/ and the home page's Latest News.

Changes:

  • Adds _posts/2026-07-17-python-programming-french-edition.md with front matter matching existing lecture posts (author: QuantEcon, tag: [lectures], quoted title/excerpt).
  • Body describes the launch, language-switcher inclusion, the machine-translation workflow via action-translation, and the native-speaker review progress, with well-formed links.
